Spring 2013 Programs for Ages 5-18

Based on League Age as of April 30, 2013 (See Chart Below)

  •  T-ball is for ages 5 and 6. Players hit off a tee, and later in the season may hit off coach-pitch. Player commitment is one weekday (varies by team) and Sundays during the season, which runs from early April until the end of the school year.

  • Instructional is for ages 6 and 7, and is coach-pitch.  7 year olds in 2nd grade may opt to play A league.  Player commitment is one weekday (varies by team) and Saturdays during the season, which runs from early April until the end of the school year.

  • The Little League division is ages 8 to 12 also split by age and skill into 4 groups:

    • A- 8 year olds - coach pitch for 3 innings, players pitch last three innings.  8 year olds in 3rd grade may opt to play AA league.

    • AA9 year olds - Kid pitch for the entire game.  Limits on scoring per inning, no stealing.  9 year olds in 4th grade may opt to play AAA league.

    • AAA - most 10s and 11s, (plus 12s who opt to play in AAA)

    • Majors - All 12 year olds, plus 11s and 10s selected by managers to play in this division

      • NOTE: All 10, 11 and 12 year olds will play either in AAA or Majors based on evaluations and previous performance.

      • Half the teams will make up Majors, the other half AAA.

      • All 12 year olds will be in Majors unless they opt to be in AAA.

      • 11 and 10 year olds can be selected for Majors by the managers based on evaluations, previous performance and the manager's judgment of their readiness to compete against 12 year olds.

      • AAA will be made up of all 10 and 11 year olds not selected for Majors, and any 12s that opt for AAA.

  • Spring 90' baseball for all players age 13 to 18 is played on the full-sized big diamond with 90' bases, 60'6" pitching distance, using "real" baseball rules like leading off, balks, headfirst slides (with some Little League modifications). See the home page for equipment requirements.

  • All children in their age group will play in the same division.

  • The season starts in April and ends in early June. There are usually 3 events (game or practices) per week, on weekdays and weekends, including Sundays.

  • Evaluations are be indoors in mid-March: register now so you don't miss any announcements

  • Age Brackets are as follows:

    • Juniors is for age 13, and 12s in the 7th grade. Games are played both in town and with teams from Lawrence, Andover, and Haverhill.

      • NOTE: Any 12 year old who opts to play Juniors is no longer eligible to play in 60' league or district tournaments once they play their first Juniors game.

    • Seniors is for ages 14-15, and 13s in the 8th grade. Games are played both in town and with teams from Lawrence and Andover. Note: games are scheduled to avoid any conflicts with any NAHS freshman and JV baseball games.

      • Note: Any 13 year old 7th grader wishing to be considered for Seniors must have played on the 90' diamond before, and must attend Seniors evaluations. The decision to allow a 13 year old 7th grader to play Seniors is subject to the discretion of the Board of Directors.

    • Big League: The program is for 16 to 18 year olds, but if you are in the 10th grade you can play too. 9th graders who are on school teams may request to play here as well. Big League plays on Sunday afternoons in North Andover and other towns such as Andover, Methuen, Tewksbury, Billerica, Lowell, and Dracut. There are either two 7 inning games or a 9 inning game. There might be a Saturday afternoon makeup game if there is rain. Practice time is once or twice a week. Big League uses a continuous batting order and free defensive substitution to maximize everyone's playing time. Yes, you can play if you play high school ball or other sports. The games do not conflict with any NAHS baseball games, and players in most other spring sports can have full participation. The program is a great way to get extra playing time, playing time at a different position if you play high school ball, or just to play baseball if you play another sport.

    • NOTE TO HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS: Yes, you can play both HS ball and NABCLL. The NAHS coach, Todd Dulin, encourages players to play both if they wish. Of course the high school team will be your priority, but NABCLL works closely with NAHS to avoid schedule conflicts and overuse, especially of pitchers. There have been many players who did both without any issues, so we encourage you to register early - if you make a HS team and choose to drop out of NABCLL, please let us know as soon as you can.
