7th Annual Food & Wine Festival

We have a tremendous event lined up for Saturday, June 16th at 6:30pm on the lawn at the Stevens Estate.  The festivities include delicious food and great wines for tasting.  Boston radio personality Hank Morse is our DJ, master of ceremonies and auctioneer for the evening. In between, dozens of baskets of auction items donated by the teams are available at the silent and live auctions. This event is a critical part of offering quality baseball to nearly 1,000 children in North Andover each year, and we are grateful for your support.

The event costs $35 a ticket, and tickets are limited. Please register today here: http://www.sportspilot.com/register/regbegin.asp?asoid=105662

Please Join Us for our 2nd Annual NABCLL Day at the Spinners

Last year, over 340 friends of NABCLL enjoyed a great day at a Lowell Spinners game.  Please join us at this year's game on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 1:05 PM.  The Lowell Spinners play at LaLacheur Park in Lowell.  It is easy to get to, has great site lines and is affordable family entertainment.  You will enjoy the great family atmosphere, with Red Sox stars of the future competing against the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Please email Bill Holland for tickets wjholland25@gmail.com

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS

Please immediately email or mail your completed 2012 Volunteer Application if you have not already submitted one to Rick Green rgreen@nasdidemo.com, the NABCLL Safety and CORI Officer.

The file is here: http://www.nayouthbaseball.org/FileArea/110433/Docs/VolunteerApp2012.pdf - you can fill it out electronically including digitally signing it, save it, and submit it to Rick along with a photograph of your license or other government-issued ID. You can also print and mail it along with a photocopy of that ID to: NABCLL, PO Box 416, North Andover, MA 01845.

No managers, assistant coaches or parent volunteers will be permitted to particiapate in practices or games without submitting the proper documentation for a background check. At some point we will be asking managers and coaches to leave the field who have not submitted the proper documentation.

Even if you submitted a CORI form for another sport this year, you must still do one for NABCLL. By law, each organization must do it's own background check every year. NABCLL and NABC are two different organizations.

Little League has made important changes to the bat regulations for 2012.

If your are buying a bat for your child, or bought one recently, NABCLL would like you to know the rules before you buy: see the link here.

As in 2011, bats that have a Composite barrel are no longer allowed, unless they have been tested and approved.

A Composite bat is made with the same metal exterior as a standard metal bat, but has a "woven" graphite or carbon fiber wall on the inside. College baseball was the first to ban these bats because the ball comes off them faster than a metal bat. Now they are banned in high school. Little League also felt they were a safety risk, and banned composite bats unless they were tested and approved.

So, before you buy a bat please visit the Little League website at this link: Little League Announces Bat Rule Changes for 2012 Season.

You will find more information including a list of approved bats for Majors and below (ages 12 and under), and the regulations for Juniors and above (ages 13-18).

Please read these regulations carefully before buying or using a bat this year.

Here is a quick summary of the regulations for 2012:

Majors and below:

  • same as 2011, 2 1/4" only
  • composite-barreled bats banned except if on the approved list

Juniors (13s):

  • composite-barreled bats must be stamped BBCOR (all BBCOR bats are -3)
  • bats with no composite materials in the barrel (all-metal, all-alloy, or all-wood bats) can have any drop weight.

Seniors and Big League (14-18):

  • -3 bats only
  • if not all-wood, must be stamped BBCOR

As an additional service NABCLL has a link to a bat sizing guide here.
